Soundproofing a Wall – A Complete Guide
Jan 3, 2026
Noise travels through walls as airborne sound and structural vibration. Effective wall soundproofing must add mass, create separation, and absorb sound. Add heavy, dense boards like soundproofing panels (e.g., SBx boards or mass-loaded vinyl) to increase mass. Use resilient clips or stud systems to decouple wall surfaces and reduce vibration transmission. Fill cavities with acoustic mineral wool to absorb airborne noise within the wall. Seal gaps and edges with acoustic sealant to prevent leakage.
